Terms of service

Short, and in plain words, because terms nobody reads protect nobody. If something here is unclear, write and ask rather than guessing.

What this service is

A free, public index of what policy research institutions publish. We hold titles, dates, links and, where an institution's own terms allow it, a short abstract. We do not host, republish or rewrite anyone's work, and every link goes to the institution rather than staying here.

The index is assembled automatically from feeds and sitemaps the institutions publish. That means errors: a wrong date, a miscategorised paper, an institution listed under the wrong country. Tell us and it is corrected, whether or not you are a customer.

Nothing here is advice. An index of what institutions argue is not a statement that any of it is right.

Using the index

Read it, link to it, quote a title and cite us. Machines are welcome too: there is an llms.txt and the pages are structured for it.

What you may not do is take the index itself. Copying it wholesale, systematically harvesting it to rebuild it elsewhere, or passing it off as your own work is not allowed, and the arrangement of this index is protected in its own right separately from the works it points at.

If automated access to the site is heavy enough to affect it for everyone else, we may rate limit or block it. Write to us first and we will usually find a better way to give you what you need.

If you are one of the institutions listed

You are listed because you publish on these topics, not because you asked to be and not because you paid. If anything about your listing is wrong, write and it is changed. If you would rather not be listed at all, write and you are removed. Neither costs anything and neither depends on you buying anything.

Copyright in your work stays yours. We link to it. If you believe something here reproduces your work rather than pointing at it, tell us and we will take it down while we look, because that would breach our own rule before it breached yours.

Placements, if you buy one

Ordering a placement is an agreement for a named position, for a stated period, carrying creative you supply and approve. Nothing goes live before you have seen it.

Some positions are capped: topic sponsorship is one partner per topic and membership recruitment is limited to two at a time. If a slot has gone by the time your payment lands, we refund it the same day and tell you when it frees up. If we cannot run a one-off placement at all, you get the money back.

A monthly placement can be stopped at any time. It runs to the end of the month you have paid for and nothing further is taken. Founding rates stay at the rate you started on for as long as the placement runs, even when the rate card goes up.

We can refuse or end a placement. If we end one we have already been paid for, we refund the unused part.

Prices are in pounds, taken through Stripe. Real Market Strategy Ltd is not VAT registered, so no VAT is charged and none can be reclaimed on what you pay us.

What no amount of money buys

No position in the index. Placements sit in rails and defined blocks, never in a result list, and a sponsor's publications do not move up a page.

No inclusion, no removal, and no say in how anyone's work is described, including your own.

Every placement carries the words “Paid placement” in the same position and the same type on every page it appears on.

These are terms, not a promise of good behaviour. An index that can be bought is worth nothing to appear in, including to whoever bought it.

Liability, plainly

The index is provided as it is. We do not warrant that it is complete, current or free of error, and we are not liable for decisions taken on the strength of it.

If you have paid us, our liability to you is capped at what you paid in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing here limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law does not allow us to limit.

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction.

Changes

We may change these terms. The date at the top says when they last changed. A change never applies backwards to a placement already bought and running.
